New Patents

Research, modelling and data gathering has led to a number of new patents being drafted in addition to the core patent which is now registered in 42 countries.

New patents include those for Cool Vault, an entirely novel concept focused on seasonal cooling requirements.

Green Mining

The Heat Vault Company was selected by European Commission as representative at an international mining conference and exhibition in the Andes.

Following discussions with a global commercial company, the case was made for  combining Heat Vault energy storage with renewables solar and wind to solve the problems of their intermittency in order to provide continuous 24/7 green power to electrify mines, vehicles and equipment.

Showcase

In a remote location in Western Sweden, the first full scale Heat Vault has been built with an initial capacity of 1GWh. This is a global first.

This is a test-bed site for various developments. But also a showcase to allow visitors to view the structure first hand. It has already received its first commercial visitors.

As a working site, a variety of optimisation tests have been performed with results which have exceeded expectations in the energy input, storage and outputs. Both electrical and thermal fluid inputs have been evaluated.

The site is currently undergoing further developments to link the energy storage with both inclined and vertical solar PV.

Commercial Build

A commercial agreement has been reached with the Municipality of Härnösand in Eastern Sweden to plan the build of a Heat Vault at the scale of 20 GWh.

This will be one of the largest such storage capacities worldwide.

The Heat Vault will principally be used to store heat from the district heating plant in summer months for use in winter months. This will support both technical and financial objectives for the heat network which serves the community.
